Integrity in Sport: Contractual Risk Management

21 January 2008
Charles Russell LLP, 8-10 New Fetter Lane, London EC4A 1RS

Introduction:

Governing bodies in tennis are conducting an investigation into allegations of match-fixing after suspicious betting patterns came to light.
Incidents in the recent Tour de France have highlighted the commercial impact that doping can have on sports events, sponsors, broadcasters, athletes and federations.
Sporting organisations must maintain the integrity of sport, ensuring that broadcasters and sponsors do not desert an event if participants are accused of manipulation.

All parties in sporting contracts need to be aware of the consequences of doping and betting, and should make provisions to contractually manage their risk.

The Briefing will provide in-depth analysis of how sport’s stakeholders can best protect their interests in sports events, and will provide a unique opportunity for sports clubs, federations, governing bodies, sponsors and advisors to discuss their plans for developing corruption-free sport and upholding its integrity.
