In a meeting of the EU’s Telecommunications Council on 22 April 1999 political agreement was reached with regard to the proposal for a Directive on a common framework for electronic signatures. This is an important step towards the proposal being adopted by the European Commission and then transposed into national law / read more

Electronic Commerce should be regulated under the same laws that govern commerce as traditionally carried on. The internet by which E-Commerce is conducted does not after all take place in a vacuum. However, applying existing terrestrial laws and principles to E-commerce which operates over the World Wide Web is proving difficult for Governments in many forms of law including taxation. / read more
