World Sports Law Report is organising two half-day Briefings in London which will address key business issues in the sports industry.
BHB Court of Appeal Database Rights Decision takes place on Friday 16 September in association with leading City law firm Kirkpatrick & Lockhart Nicholson Graham LLP and focuses on the significance of the Appeal Court decision in BHB v William Hill for both database rights holders and rights users.
The Court of Appeal ruled that William Hill was not prohibited by the Database Directive from using the BHB database because the database fell outside the definition of the database right - potentially slashing the value of businesses overnight.
The Emergency Briefing will focus on: how the judgement impacts on protection for databases; alternatives to database rights, the opportunities for database rights users.
Speakers include Ivan Yates, Chairman and Managing Director, Celtic Bookmakers, Irish Minister for Agriculture Food and Fishery from 1994-7.
Developing and Protecting Sports Formats 2005 takes place on Tuesday 20 September in association with commercial law firm Hammonds and addresses the key issues for new sporting events to succeed.
The Briefing will focus on: developing and protecting sporting formats; organising public events; rights contracts and event organisation, funding and bidding issues.
Speakers include Carl Rohsler, Partner, Commercial and IP and head of Gambling team, Hammonds and Richard Verow, Senior Counsel for UEFA.
Both Briefings will take place from 9.00 to 1.00pm - registration from 8.30am.
